here are select pics from my san francisco vacation. as you can see, i mainly took "show" photos & the only "landmark" photos i took were of a mcdonald's in the mission that was covered in latin murals... pix from the rx gallery show are pretty bad; it was really dark & i had to turn up the brightness 50% in photoshop to see all the details, which means they're pretty washed out. i didn't even bother posting half of them.

if you already downloaded spamouflage, you should probably download it again because there was a nasty panning problem in the original version that made the first minute all right-heavy. it's now been fixed & the new version has passed the headphone test. for more details see the latest entry in my personal blog.

Sunday, November 30, 2003

finally! a new finished data track from stAllio! this might even be the mythical "fourth track" that will let me finish up that 12" i've been talking about for, oh, the past year or two....

noiseman433 has posted a nice summary on imn of sumthin' fierce, including a few pictures, like this beauty:

Sunday, November 23, 2003

wow what a show! unszene started things off right with some raucus noise, humdrum took over with some vicious beats, i played some abstract noise for about an hour, failure to thrive rocked the house, the button tranced us out (their first time ever in indiana; i hope dg picked up a baggie of dirt), bobby vomit/TEC/noiseman433 did a seamless set of great noise, dj intuit spun some rave breaks, & then drbmd capped it all off with a finale so spectacular that i can't put it in print. you had to be there (& you probably weren't). thanks to all our performers, our wonderful moderate sized crowd, & especially ck1 for putting it all together & finding such a great venue.

the latest, up-to-datest flier:

Monday, November 17, 2003

here's text-only show spam for easy posting onto mailing lists & shiz... note the official addition of dj intuit to the lineup. & if you're wondering who failure to thrive is (i know i was wondering), no, they're not emo... in fact you might know them better as backstatic featuring ankill snipah or maybe masochistic ear minus drbmd...

the battle of the fliers:

mp3.com has announced that the site will basically shut down on dec 2 or so, & all the zillions of mp3s hosted there will be deleted. deleting all that content is in many ways a crime against art, but it would've been a much bigger tragedy if this had happened a few years back when anyone gave a fuck...

so if you're looking for the 3 mp3s of mine still hosted there, you'd better get 'em soon.

& where else will we get wonderful content like this "bad radio" station, where the station owner challenges you to email him if you can make it all the way through my live version of "lavatory safety tip". (it hardly seems a coincidence that there are no other noise artists on the station... let this be a lesson to you: if you don't like or understand something, it must be crap)

i'm still trying to find whatever source out there is giving us so much traffic for pirates of the internet... for a minute i thought i'd found it but no, after thinking about it, i haven't just yet... or at least not the original source.

what i did find, though, was a link to california uber arnold on indymedia, of all places. i guess someone (presumably in san francisco) uploaded a copy of the track to the indymedia server, so i can only imagine how many copies of "urber_arnold.mp3" are out there.

the stAllio! site revamp is mostly done, with the final chunk being the newly revised stAllio! discography (not to be confused with the animals within animals discography). i spent a lot of time this weekend cleaning it & other parts of the site up, but if you notice any other bugs or dead links, let me know

Saturday, November 01, 2003

stAllio! subsite revamp underway, beginning with the new stAllio! "personal" blog, for no other reason than because some people seem to enjoy reading my blather.
yes, i got rid of the old "handshake" intro page because just directing people here is far more useful... all the links from that page should appear above, & this way you get all the latestest updates & shiz. (okay, if you really desperately need to see that page again, it is still online here, you freak)

in other news i (stAllio!, read the byline) will be in the san francisco bay area dec 12-17, & while i'm out there i just might do an interview on a certain massively cool freeform community-based radio station out there... more data tba. while i'm not looking too hard for other bookings while i'm out there, if you know of something cool then i am very willing to listen. jot me a note

Friday, October 24, 2003

T.E.C. is a spacey ambient blend of experimental madness with Bobby Vomit on modified turntables, broken records, electronics and Noiseman433 on cello, electronics."

http://www.freewebs.com/tec/
upcoming shows:

october 18, lakewood ohio: recycled rainbow 7, featuring a performance by either stAllio! or AWIA (depends on whether humdrum or any other animals make it out there). i should also be on press the button the following night.

november 22, bloomington indiana: big bash in b-town! this will be the first/biggest "venue" show we've had in a year or more. that makes it a special occasion, so dammit, come on out. featuring performances by the button, all your favorite hoosiers, & more tba? stay tuned for more info

Monday, October 06, 2003

can anyone tell me why the pirates of the internet project is suddenly so popular? i'm thinking someone must've linked to it somewhere, because damn if the pirates aren't currently getting more hits than anything else on this site (quite an accomplishment considering that project has only one finished track, plus a remix of that track by zoke)... but my google searches haven't located any such link yet. maybe net piracy is just a hot issue & people are simply finding it on their own...

...in case you didn't know, pirates of the internet is a newish project by mp3beard (aka stAllio!) & MPEG-leg (aka murkbox; actually i haven't run that MPEG-leg name by murky yet). the good news is that we are working on new material; the bad news is that we're procrastinators so you might not see those new mp3s anytime too soon.

Sunday, October 05, 2003

stAllio! site has been updated slightly; at least i cleaned up some links & finally added a link to possibly my anthem, a track i must've posted to snuggles months ago...

look for a revamp to the stAllio! site, possibly including a "personal" blog for those out there who miss my old sermons.

Wednesday, October 01, 2003

yay!
this site will be seeing a lot more action in the coming weeks or months, now that bad taste is currently on hiatus (a little burnout; it happens to the best of us). but that doesn't mean your favorite bt artists aren't still active. so i'll be updating this blog more often now, hopefully to bring you the latest news for all things AWIA, including individual animals' solo work & other projects...

more updates coming very soon

bad taste is trying to organize a tour for mid-may through mid-june! just a microtour of the midwest, sticking to shows on weekends because our broke asses can't get enough time away from our corporate slave day jobs... if you can help us set up a show, etc, please get in touch with your favorite bt dreamboat. tour info can be found at the tour page. i will try to keep this as up-to-date as possible.
you know, for a tool that's supposedly revolutionizing the way people publish on the internet, i'm having one shit of a time getting blogger to even post my updates half the time. come on! if i'd just hand-coded my html the old-fashioned way i could've updated this damn page 5x by now.
the show last night was pretty good! too bad nobody was there to hear it... i counted 14 including the promoter, & 5 of us performed.

first off bobby vomit thrilled & confused with his hoosier turntablism... i thought he was just doing a sound check but he just kept going like a pink branded bunny & eventually we figured out that obviously he was performing.

i was up next; people seemed to enjoy my bush cutups & other sillyness... someday, i swear, i'll be playing at some big party & when i start playing all my material about taking off your clothes, people will actually take their clothes off. i guess i can dream...

then came noiseman433 with a classic noise set: tons of fx & a big slab of metal that he pounded, rattled, bent, & abused. there must've been a contact mic involved because he'd rattle the thing then tweak the fuck out of his pedals for a few minutes, then pound on the metal slab some more. there was also some informative material about murmurs. i was sad when i missed his set at indytron; i was very glad to see him perform this time. we got some video & i have it on minidisc; we need to check out those recordings...

finally melk the g6-49 played... they're a 2-piece w/drums & guitar, but definitely more interesting & avant garde than just some boring punk band. they would rock out ambient style with some nice feedback n noise, then suddenly things would go crazy, the drummer would wail like animal on the muppet show, & they would get super noisy for a minute. i usually am bored to tears by rock music & rock instruments but these guys are definitely alright.

(c'mon blogger, work dammit)

Monday, March 24, 2003

the radio show went pretty well from what i can tell... the actual performance emanating from unszene's basement was pretty surreal... thanks to everyone who was involved, especially all who listened. mp3s might be up here at some point in the future.

the bad taste site is down because skinner's server has finally fallen after 5yrs of faithful service. go here to donate to the new server fund.

the artwork for stAllio! maura's milk chocolate bath is finished & the first copies of the cdr should start floating around in the next week or so, with an "official" release soon. new cds from dr. butcher m.d. & murkbox up next.

Tuesday, February 25, 2003

then
FRI 2/28, 12pm-3am EST @ wcbn 88.3FM ann arbor

animals within animals return to wcbn's electric kingdom, for possibly the last time. we will be broadcasting remotely & having wcbn retransmit our signal, blurring the lines between "live" & "meta-live" even further... listen online to the streaming webcast.

...more to come...

Thursday, January 16, 2003

the biggest downside to the animals within animals site has been the sporadic updates, as well as the fact that there was no way to easily discern when the site actually had been updated.

thus this new "news" page, currently powered by blogger but perhaps soon to be powered by our gracious host's thoughtconduit software.

we're currently working on a weekend of performances in ann arbor michigan, including a hopeful return to electric kingdom on WCBN!
