BRUTAL CINCINNATI DAMAGE

2 days of multimedia anxiety and a benefit for Art Damage Radio.

This event will be an exciting collection of primarily aggressive work by artists in the Cincinnati area. Performance and non-static media are the focus, involving local noisicians, graff/street art representation, and extremities of punk, hip hop, and techno culture. Loosely, the goal for these two days is the production of a highly engaging, emotive, and physical compilation of work which can be accredited largely to the high-energy of our city’s least passive youth and arts community. All hypothetical monetary profit from admissions will go to the account of Art Damage for use in future events and/or disasters.

at Mockbee 2260 Central Parkway, Cincinnati Ohio 45214

Friday 28th doors 6pm, lineup starts 7pm $5 (or $12 for both days)

Iovae

Current ringleader of Art Damage Radio, short wave and oscillator madman assembling an installation performance which will utilize the acoustics of Mockbee’s large tunnel-like room on the first floor.

Swill

Nasty tricks up this kid’s sleeve, preparing an installation and performance
piece with classic punk ethics, street artist propaganda.

Robert Inhuman 7:00

Harsh microphone based noise, grindcore acapella performance.

Yes, Collapse (dayton) 7:30

Dynamic and varied noise trio.

Lesniak 8:00

Fast, disjointed powerviolence.

Mavis Concave 9:30

Performing material from his recent releases on Realicide Youth, digital
hardcore and noise.

Ultra//Vires (dayton) 10:00

Extremely intense and excruciating powerelectrinics from this duo, not to be
missed ever!

Bobby Vomit (Indianapolis) 11:00

Modified record players and records, very confrontational presence easily
able to compete with Emil Beaulieau…

Burning Star Core 11:30

Needs no introduction, amazing acapella experiments and extreme violin techniques that Cincinnati has grown to love.

Johnny and The Plague (columbus) 12:30

Reuniting after a recent spiritual awakening, The Plague will be presenting an opportunity for intense psychic meditation and celebration.

Saturday 29th doors noon, lineup starts 3pm $10 ($5 after 9pm)

Black Fives 4:30

Wide variety of hardware and software experimentation, always unpredictable.

Tired Glue 5:00

Prepared guitars and wild noise action busting outta Mariemont!

Brick City 5:30

Thrash punk rock.

Chemical Committee 6:00

Beta Max + Freak kicking raps backed by nintendo, comic books, and a lot of cough syrup.

Evolve w/ DJ YESman 6:30

Intense raps and beats representing very well cincinnati’s coevolution with avant-hiphop culture.

Catharsism of Narotica (cbus) 7:00

Columbus post-neo-asurdist dada troupe, publishers of The Appropriated Press, classic sound poetry and avant garde approach of folks like Tzara or Ball.

Aaronquinn 7:30

Rising name in the newest generation of American harsh noise, powerelectronics, and free jazz through electronics.

Divine Pile: James Swill, Nina Wright, Nate Love 8:00

Percussion-based tribal-influenced avant-punk trio.

Sweatersplash 8:30

Noisecore performance with new video work.

Blood Drive 9:00

Unique punk rock trio with crust and death metal influences.

Prantershifter 9:30

Aggressive contact mic action on metal scraping across cement, some digital
elements, always intense!

Will Soderberg (Detroit) 10:00

Gnarly crude electro-analog Michigan stylo.

Roesing Ape 10:30

Notorious arch nemesis of local noise music, R.Ape will be assembling an installation of several projections and performing a new and undoubtedly scathing piece of experimental electronic music.

Uncle Dave Lewis 11:00

Traveling from Ann Arbor MI for the 20th anniversary of Art Damage Radio, Uncle Dave is a cherished avant-celebrity of local experimental performance, involved in such legends as 11,000 Switches!

Realicide bringing HEINOUS RAVE 2 12:00

a vicious hardcore followup to the test-run executed April 2003. DJed by Mavis Concave and other cide youth, this will show Ohio the overlooked raw necessity of GABBER!!!

if you live in the indianapolis area, pick up a copy of this week's INtake: on p.32 there is a photo of stAllio! & a short blurb about him. (the online version linked here does not have the photo, but it does have the blurb.)

this is in relation to the midwest music summit: don't forget that stAllio! performs at the mms, saturday august 14 at united states of mind.

Monday, August 09, 2004

here are some pics from the il troubadore & stAllio! performances at the alternative media fest on july 30. (unfortunately TEC did not perform because bobby vomit had a transportation-related emergency)

Friday, July 30, 2004

more about the mms:

like i said before, this could be one of my biggest shows ever... part of the midwest music summit, a 3-day music conference in indianapolis august 12-14 featuring 40-something shows, exclusive parties, panel discussions, a trade show, & all kinds of other stuff. for those three days, indy will have so much live music it will be busting out of its ass.

if you only want to see my show, that's just $5 (and it's all ages, dammit!) but why not take advantage of all the other stuff by getting a badge instead? i can hook you up with a badge for $45, which will get you full admittance into the conference: all the shows, parties, & everything else. $45 for three days worth of entertainment is a pretty good deal when you think about it (it costs that much just to get into disneyland for one day). plus, if you buy a badge through me, not only does it show the mms folks that there are people out there who are into live experimental electronic music (making them more likely to book me and other interesting acts in the future), but i will get $15 dollars of that skrill. making me $15 into your debt. (i'm realistic; i don't expect anyone to buy a badge through me, so if you do i will notice. maybe i'll give you some free merch. maybe i'll give you $15 worth of something illegal, like drugs or sexual favors.)

okay, let's get on with it:

If you are interested in buying a badge to the Midwest Music Summit, follow these simple instructions:

  1. Copy and paste this url into a new browser: http://www.ticketweb.com/user/?region=infw&query=schedule&venue=glendale&REFID=stallio
  2. Click on the “buy” icon.
  3. Select the number of badges you wish to purchase, and agree to the terms and conditions of TicketWeb.
  4. Click Proceed
  5. On the “Please select price” dropdown box, select “US $45 REGULAR”
  6. Lastly, click “Checkout”. It’s that easy!

animals within animals and lost frog productions present:

animals within animals - get me some press or kill these people

tokyo-based lost frog productions has put out the first studio release from animals within animals in three years, & it's available for free download, with pdf cover art for you to print out and hang on your wall.

get me some press or kill these people is raw and emotional. it takes the cutup sampling sensibilities of awia's earlier studio work and infuses it with the harsh noise flavor of their live performances. the result is intense and seemingly erratic, as the reptilian brain overcomes the mammalian brain and arranges sound based on raw instinct rather than cold logic or "musical" formula.

check it out at http://www.lostfrog.net/

and hey, while you're there, you might as well download some of the other lost frog mp3 releases... a few of my favorites include the releases by panicsville, five starcle men, & kingdom scum... & how can you not like a band called "world targets in megadeaths"?

Sunday, July 25, 2004

dj copper top reports:

Weds, June 16: Fuck the DJ #3

The last installment of this three show series. Fuck the DJ is about LIVE electronic music performance. This time I am proudly presenting three regional acts, plus one "live in appearance" CD release event. It will be at the Melody Inn in Indianapolis @ 3826 N. Illinois St.. Of note: the Melody has fully opened the Red Room (somebody can show ya where it is) with a bar, and the beer garden is open in the back as well. There is a $5 donation for admittance. All door income goes to support the live performers. Doors are at 10PM. Here is the lineup!

TELEPHONE! is from Minneapolis and is electropop. Lollipop, the stunning red Head dynamo, fronts the act. She performs with her flawless DJ sidekick DJ Dynamo. This band is not to be missed and should appeal to fans of Fischerspooner, Miss Kitten, Felix Da Housecat, and Ladytron.

stAllio is the hometown hero from Indianapolis for this show. His Live PA is filled with ambient, experimental, and noisy soundscapes. This ain't no DJ set. Be ready, you will have to pay attention. stAllio has performed all over and you can check out both of the sites for more info. www.animalswithinanimals.com
http://badtastesucks.com

Fission 451 is from Chicago. Roland specializes in the production and live performance of trance and psy-trance. With two albums under his belt Roland produces and performs through the use of both digital (programs) and analog (hardware) sources. His main machine is the MC-909. His music ranges from raw melody's, to scenic soundscapes, to hard pounding anthem-esq dance tracks.

Dekoy is a duo from Southwestern Ohio and Northeastern Kentucky. Baza (vocalist and lyric writer for Dekoy) will appear live for the CD release at this Fuck the DJ. He will have CD giveaway's and we will be playing most tracks from the CD over the evening. Dekoy fits into the synthpop/EBM genre. I find this act fascinating. This release has been given acclaim internationally and is their freshman full length release. This duo self-produced, edited, pressed, released, distributed, and promoted their own album, and as far as I can see to a great success.
check out the new rr8 bent picture gallery: databent versions of my photos from rr8.

check out the photos from rr8!

kudos to unszene for his great interview on the sound experiment last night! we have a recording of the show, so i might try to make a computerized version available for those who missed it (or who just want to sample it, like me).

check out our new look! animalswithinanimals.com leaps into the third millennium by implementing CSS sitewide (not just on the blogs)! i still edit everything (other than the blogs) in notepad, so i'm still old-school, but at least now the site doesn't remind you of using netscape 2.0... i really like the black highlights on the links.

edits are still in progress so you might notice something funny... bug reports are encouraged. the stAllio! site is not css-ified yet (i want a different stylesheet for that, if not a few), nor is the pirates section, so don't bother reporting that stuff.

anyway, i'm back, shirts are in, the shop is open again, i'll be shipping some records to praxis in europe very soon, our new mp3ep is pretty close to being finished, bad taste will return with a brand new site in the coming weeks or months, & i'll be posting some info about new upcoming shows very, very soon. if you're looking for show info (especially in central indiana), the bbs at the indytron site is overflowing with links and show stuff, so check it out... you might as well register & start chatting too, because there's not much actual conversation going on just yet.

Wednesday, May 26, 2004

the new t-shirts are in! but because i'm leaving tomorrow for an extended rr trip, i won't be able to sell any from the site until i get back mid-next-week. (i'll be sending out a few emails then to those who already inquired.)

also, it turns out american apparel stopped making purple baby doll shirts, so the girly shirts are available in black and lavender instead of purple. the purple men's shirts look pretty swank, though. and all new shirts are glow in the dark so go to the awia shop & get your god damn rave on!

Friday, May 21, 2004

almost forgot:

saturday, may 22 @ 11 A.M.
at the irving 5505 E. Washington St. indianapolis

T.E.C. (T.E.C.=Turntables, Electronics, and Cello)

and Robert Bruce Scott-mandolin/Noiseman433-cello

noiseman lists this as the "irving open house" and says it is free and all ages but there is no mention of it on the irving website... whatever

Thursday, May 20, 2004

if you're lookin' for some radio lovin', check out the free zone, friday nights at midnight indiana time (88.7fm indianapolis or streaming realaudio). i recently sent them a care package of stAllio! & awia material & rob g assures me that he intends to play some. their playlists tend toward indie rock but are generally pretty eclectic. hell, why not tape the show? you might get some good samples of someone saying "stAllio!" or "animals within animals". i can never have too many of those.

furthermore, unszene will have a piece and an interview in an upcoming episode of the sound experiment on indiana public radio (and corresponding realaudio stream). the site says that episode will air at midnight indiana time on june 6 (on ths cusp between sunday night & monday morning). go ahead & tape that too.

new shirts will be in within the week; at the latest they assure me i'll have them in time for rr8.

upcoming events:
sat may 29: awia and/or stAllio! +many more at recycled rainbow 8; lakewood OH

wed june 16: stAllio! +TELEPHONE +more at "fuck the dj" at melody inn; indianapolis IN

Saturday, May 01, 2004

we now have buttons at the awia shop! and we hope to have more styles and more button offers soon, courtesy of unszene, so stay tuned.

for those of you who are waiting for girly shirts, purple shirts, or M/XXL sizes, sorry about the delay. the good news i just placed the order for them, hope to pay for them monday/tuesday, & should have them 2 weeks (or less) after that. if you have contacted me about one of those sizes, i will email you personally as soon as i get them. i could easily blame the delay on supply problems (i had to use a different supplier at the last minute), but ultimately it's my own damn fault for promoting something i didn't physically have in my hands yet. sorry again, but this time i should definitely have them in stock within 2-3 weeks, & i will most certainly have them by rr8.

Tuesday, April 27, 2004

hey ladies!

i need your feedback about girly shirts! i'm considering not getting girly shirts at all, or if i do i'll have to charge more than for the other shirts. please read my blog entries on the subject and give me your opinion stat!

Saturday, April 24, 2004

apparently the email link in the awia shop was bad. if by some off chance you actually tried to order but it bounced or you got no reply, rest assured that stallio@animalswithinanimals.com is a working address, & try again. the link is now fixed so ordering should work normally now.

i wrote a few impressions of last night's show in beavercreek here.

Thursday, April 22, 2004

sadly there is a delay with the new shirts. we still have some black L & XL in stock (although very limited stock of L), but will not have the purple shirts or other sizes for a couple weeks.

oh, since i'm posting, i'll remind you of the show tomorrow in ohio at the cannon art collective in beautifully named beavercreek (outside dayton)

Monday, April 19, 2004

get your consumer on

the brand new AWIA SHOP is now open! this means you can now get stAllio!'s true data 12" & other goodies direct from us! check out the awia shop for pricing/ordering details, an up-to-date list of other shops selling the record, & more.

Friday, April 09, 2004

i have just received word that my records have arrived. the stAllio! true data 12" is now in stock!

i need a little time to figure out shipping costs & stuff like that. but soon the records will be available for sale from this website, & hopefully other shops as well. i also plan to offer a special "combo" deal for one 12" + one t-shirt.

Thursday, April 08, 2004

mp3s from experiMENTAL are up at the bad taste site!

downloads are a little slow right now, but if you can suffer through that, there are more than 6 hours of audio there for your enjoyment.

Wednesday, April 07, 2004

Tuesday, April 06, 2004

stAllio! and Noiseman433 are among the 170 artists featured on the forthcoming indy mp3 project cd.

the indy mp3 project is an mp3cd featuring carefully selected tracks from some of the best musicians in the indianapolis area, in a broad range of styles...from all the obvious ones like rock, hip-hop, pop, punk, emo, & country to electronic styles, jazz, classical, folk, & god knows what else. hell, if stAllio! & Noiseman433 were selected, you can tell it will be diverse.

this is a big deal as 5000 copies will be pressed & distributed for free. that's a lot of free promotion, particularly for "fringe" artists like us. for more info, including how & where to pick up a copy in the indy area, check out the website... & while you're there, notice the quote from f'n bart peterson at the top. like i say, this is a big deal.

Wednesday, March 31, 2004

yesterday i mailed off my test pressing approval, so the stAllio! true data 12" should be out in a matter of weeks.

noiseman433 has started uploading all his old show photos, including shots from past bad taste-related events. check this thread on imn for links to all the galleries.

and pretty much everything from our 3/20 experiMENTAL show was recorded to DAT. drbmd is in the process of preparing mp3s of all that audio... so stay tuned for that.

satisfied customer %20 has created this nifty ad modeling our new t-shirts!

check it

if you're looking for sizes other than L or XL, please email me so i can make sure to order you one when i get reorders.

L & XL t-shirts are still $10ppd anywhere within the US; just send paypal to stallio@geocities.com. but after researching shipping rates, i realized don't really make any money shipping any further than western europe for only $12. so i'm making the following adjustment to international prices. for canada, mexico, & western europe, i will keep the price at $12ppd for the time being. for the rest of the world, it will now be $14ppd. allow 4-6 weeks for delivery. if that's too slow, contact me for other options.

these prices are very low & i make at most$4-5 (typically closer to $3) off each one.

exciting news for upcoming events!

  • stAllio! will hopefully "ship" his true data 12" within the next week (hopefully if i post this publicly, then i'll actually do it). that would mean that after mastering, pressing, etc, the record should hopefully be out around march or april. then i will hopefully be able to stop using the word "hopefully".
  • the next bad taste show is officially on the schedule for march 20, 2004 at the black box/bloomington playwrights project (where we had our last show in november).
  • sometime after that in spring will be "even faker", the bad taste barn-style event somewhere in the wilderness of southern indiana.
  • sometime in the coming months, animals within animals will release an "mp3 ep" kinda thing on lost frog records.

t-shirts are in! & my o my are they handsome.

these are ultra heavyweight 100% cotton black t-shirts, in L & XL sizes. i will sell them online for $10ppd anywhere within the US. (for outside the US, let's say $12ppd)

i will accept paypal sent to stallio@geocities.com (please send paypal money only to this address). or email me for other payment options.

& if you're looking for affordable quality screen printing services, i heartily recommend screen monkey, the new business from awia member unszene!

the word on the street is that bobby vomit is now a father! or at least, the baby's due date is past, and unszene claims he saw the vomit truck parked in front of the midwifery yesterday. so there you have it... vomit junior has most likely been unleashed on an unsuspecting world.

i once heard bill maher say "i don't think people should be congratulated for spawning." and to some extent i agree. but that doesn't mean we can't offer our full support and sympathy to bobby and bella as they begin a huge lifestyle change! (especially bella, who really lives up to the animals within animals name by ejecting a living, breathing mammal from inside her own abdominal cavity.)
